One of the questions we are often asked is, "Can we come and meet the puppies?" The answer is NO.
There are several reasons we do not allow visitors.
First, each and every person that comes into the area where we have our dogs has the potential to bring in diseases. Some of these diseases (Parvo, Distemper & many others) are highly contagious and can easily wipe out every unvaccimated pup. If you do manage to save them, it is only after extensive vet care and expenses are incurred. It is not only a huge financial loss but it is also absolutely heartbreaking to lose one of our dogs or pups. Once these diseases have been introduced to an area, it is incredibly difficult to completely eradicate it. These diseases can remain in the ground or other porous surfaces for years. Every puppy or dog that comes into the area is at risk. We love our dogs, we put tens of thousands of dollars into our breeding dogs puppies and facilities. We simply will not put them at risk for you to visit.
There is also the cold hard fact of the times we are living in . I ask you for a moment to consider how many complete strangers YOU would allow to come to the home where your children live? We have met some incredibly wonderful people over the years, many of them we remain in contact with. Unfortunately, each and every time you allow someone to come to your home you take the risk of THAT person being the wrong one. At best, they can come back while you aren't home and steal your belongings, dogs, puppies, etc.. and at worst, they could come to harm you or your family.
We realize that you might have reservations about buying a puppy sight unseen. That is why we have our Facebook pages where you can see videos of our dogs and pups. You can also see posts from others who have our dogs and see first hand what they have to say. We are also always happy to speak with you, answer any questions and remain a support after you have your puppy.
AKC does not recognize the various sizes within this breed.
AKC "Breed Standard"
"The preferred height for males is 20 to 23 inches for males and 18 to 21 inches for females. Quality is not to be sacrificed in favor of size."
(The full breed standard can be found on the AKC website, www.AKC.org)
Although the breed standard is considered 18 to 23 inches, many people prefer the smaller sizes referred to as "mini" and "toy". A miniature Australian Shepherd is a dog that is 14 to 18 inches at maturity. a toy Australian Shepherd is one that matures under 14 inches.
NO BREEDER CAN EVER GAURANTEE SIZE
We Do try to be as accurate as possible when predicting the size a puppy will grow to as an adult. Reputable breeders have "sized down" Australian Shepherds by generations of selective breeding, this means that while they may carry genetics to produce smaller dogs, they will also carry the genetics that produce larger dogs. Even within the same litter wecan get several inches diffence between pups. We ESTIMATE size by knowing the size of the parents, size of previous litters and size of the puppy within the litter. We truly want everyone to be happy with their puppy so we will do our best to be upfront and honest about the size!
While ALL of our dogs are AKC registered, they also qualify for other registries also. Some of our dogs are AKC, ASCA & ASDR registered. Others are AKC, ASDR, MASCA & IMASC registered.
MASCA is the Miniature Australian Shepherd Club of America
IMASC is the International Australian Shepherd Club
We DO NOT allow any puppy that is registered with ASCA (Australian Shepherd Club of America) to be registered as a mini with any registry for any reason. The ASCA registry does not allow any dog registered with them to be dual registered as a mini and will revoke their registration papers if it is done.
AKC does not revoke registration and therefor we DO allow any of our puppies that are NOT registered with ASCA to be dual registered as minis or toys.
A miniature Australian Shepherd IS NOT the same as a Mini American Shepherd. These are 2 SEPARATE breeds within AKC. If you breed a mini American to a an Australian Shepherd they WILL NOT be eligible for AKC registration. While we do not keep up with the rules and regulations for the mini American breed, we have seen many of them advertised as being "the same" as an Australian Shepherd. Yes, originally, many breeders took their Mini Australian Shepherds and changed them to Mini Americans, however, AKC will no longer allow any AKC Australian Shepherd to be registered as a mini American.
